I heard from someone in Lagos that people are going to be killed or beheaded because the Oba or Itire in Surulere has died. I just want to know if it's actually true that people will be beheaded just because a Yoruba king has died. Is it true or a rumour? Is it a normal Yoruba tradition?

As far as I know, it has been a normal tradition for Yoruba people to bury other people with the Oba so that they may serve him in the spirit world. However, I've no evidence to prove it but what I do know is that it is illegal for people to kill other people in the name of offering sacrifice or performing a traditional rite. It's illegal under Nigerian law to kill people but it's possible that some Yoruba people still do it as part of their tradition. What normally happens is that people avoid going out late at night or opening their business till late hours so there is normally that fear of getting killed sacrificially after an Oba dies in Yoruba land.
