Are you talking about Emeka Ojukwu or his father Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu? It was actually Louis Ojukwu that made the Ojukwu family popular in Igbo land.

Louis was an enterprising Igbo man that made his millions through palm oil export and transportation with his company Ojukwu transport company. Stories have it that he made good money transporting palm oil from Igbo land to Lagos and then exporting it to London for foreign exchange. His transport company also made millions by transporting Igbo people from Asaba end to Lagos after they've crossed the River Niger on boat. In those days, there was no Niger bridge and people or cars were normally taken on a ferry or boat across the Niger. He died before the Biafran war.

Emeka Ojukwu on the other hand was the son of a rich man and was privileged to study in the UK and also trained in the Nigeria army. He was the military leader of the Eastern Region before the Civil war broke out and had to fight to defend the former eastern region from the Nigerian army. Then, the Eastern region comprised of states like Anambra, Calabar, Rivers, Imo which comprised of Igbos, Ijaws and Ibibios. Emeka Ojukwu is still respected in history as a man who fought gallantly for Biafra's independence.
