How do I start a pure water company in Nigeria?

I'm interested in the business and want to know how to get started

Well first of all you need to register you company with the Corporate Affairs commission but the main thing is capital.
You need to consider the following assets and items:
If it is for a satchet water

- Land or rented space
- Borehole
- Bungalow factory setup
- Automatic fill and seal machines - 1 ok for a start (N400,000)
- Cash book
- Invoice, receipts and delivery notes
- Labour - About 4 will do for a start
- Nafdac approval
Others optional:
- Delivery Truck

Yes and also in place of borehole, you may just use your own water tank and buy water from tankers. You will also need a stainless steel treatment plant connected to your tank that filters out particles and then connect the feed pipe too to a UV system that kills bacteria before feeding the treated water to the machine.
You will need some labour to operate each machine like 2 per machine of 1 if he is experienced.
Some machines cost about 250,000 while some cost more. The cheaper ones are more of the low standard ones and are not as fast as some others when it comes to producing sachets.
Bottled water is more easier and probably pays more but it needs more capital if you are going to mechanize it. You can still start bottled water with small capital if you want to do most of the work with labour but production would be lower.

In summary, if you are starting on a small scale for either satchet or bottled, you would need about N1,000,000. This is excluding other resources like land or rent and your factory building. Also, you would need to do a chemical analysis of your product prior to applying for license from NAFDAC

The cost to start would not be less than 5 million naira minus the cost of vehicles. From the beginging to the point of receiving NAFDAC operational license your total cost shall not be less than 5 million. For example,you start from Land to structure the building. NAFDAC has a certain way for the structure of the building. The rooms should not be less than 4 and the building must be fenced. You can go to NAFDAC and receive their requirements. You purcahse the equipments to produce the sachet water. After the installation and some other unforseen requirements to meet with NARDAC, you hire someone to process the permit with NAFDAC. It s easier to get your permit through someone who knows how NAFDAC operates than doing it yourself. To get your NAFDAC number shall be up to 6 months after NAFDAC already come for inspection. I am saying all these because I just established one in Nigeria. You need many delivery vehicles. So just the way I mentioned you are looking at least between 5 million and up. It consumes CAPITAL. That is the truth. Whoever tells you that it costs less than are big liars.

1. Certificate of incorporation of your company.
2. Certificate of registration of trademark.
3. Report of public analysis on the sample of your product.
4. Your factory building and your equipments installed.
5. Your production manager must have at least an OND in any of the following: food nutritionist, food technologist, any chemical scientist, micro-biologist, water engineer, etc.
6. NAFDAC registration and number which would be printed on your product

Just take a visit to a pure water factory near by and talk to the manager ask him as much question as you can, do not be frigten cos he is a human been like you. When you are through with him you also need to visit nafdac for more information to clearify ur thought.

I am new in the water business. Everything but a delivery truck is ready, but we are out of cash at the moment to afford one. NAFDAC is schedulesd for the onsite visit in a week.

NAFDAC doesn't encourage the use of residential place to do the water factory unless you are able to demarcate it from the residential area.

i met a lady who has been in this business for long time, she said pure water business is very stressful, you have to do it full time, cos sometimes the distributors end up stealing most of ur products, and u pay them per bag, then calculate at the end of the month and you need these drivers cos they have customers already, so you can't do it on your own by sourcing for new customers, because they've been there and know how it works. She said they steal a lot, sometimes they take a vehicle part from distributing truck and say it's bad and needs to be changed.
