It costs about 3GB to watch a 1 hr movie in HD while for SD, it uses about 1GB of data. You can get 1GB of data in Nigeria for about N1000. So, the minimum cost of watching a 2 hr Netflix movie in HD is about N3000 since it would use up to 3GB of data worth at least N3000.

DSTV allows me to watch tonnes of movies for a flat monthly fee of N14000 but that N14000 would only give me access to watch less than 5 movies on Netflix. Can't they make it cheaper?
Re: How much does it cost to watch Netflix videos in Nigeria Reply by James on Friday February 12, 2016 at 10:40:10: The main problem with watching Netflix in Nigeria is the high cost of internet services. As already noted, it costs at least N1000 to get 1GB of data in Nigeria and not many people can easily afford to spend up to 20GB per month watch Netflix. You also have to consider the fact that a majority of Nigerians are poor as they receive a low monthly income. It is not the Netflix monthly subscriptions that are the problem but the cost of internet usage itself. It would be better if there were many companies offering an unlimited data service so that people would just pay a flat monthly or yearly fee for internet. Oxygen Wifi tried something like that a few years ago but they're not working again for now.

I recently tried it and all my data was gone after watching a movie. Don't use a mobile data plan to watch Netflix unless you have no other use for the data. However, I do like the idea of a video streaming service. Many Nigerians need to embrace internet streaming as an alternative to Cable TV.
